The organisation of degrees in Spain has undergone revision in the last years due to the Bologna Process and the setting-up of the European Higher Education Area. The new degrees are easily comparable within Europe and are divided in graduate and postgraduate degrees.
This new structure aims at facilitating mobility and trans-national employment. The official programs taught at the UC are structured in three levels: Degree Programmes, Master and Doctorate Programmes.
*Except for the Degree in Medicine which has 360 credits (6 years).
The Degree is the first cycle of official university programmes. Its aim is the comprehensive education of the students in one or several disciplines, oriented to the preparation for the performance of a professional career.
The Master is the second cycle oriented to provide the student with an advanced, specialized education oriented to a more qualified professional or academic career or to the start of research activities.
The Doctorate is the third and highest cycle that aims at providing advanced training in research knowledge and techniques. Upon completion, the student obtains the title of Doctor or Ph.D, once the doctoral Thesis on an original topic is elaborated and defended in public.
