Session 6
Title: Methods in
Computational Number Theory
Organizers: David
Sevilla (dsevilla@cs.concordia.ca)
Jaime Gutierrez (jaime.gutierrez@unican.es)
Description:
Number theorists have always made calculations, whether by hand, desk
calculator, or computer. In recent years this tendency has extended in
many directions, and has been reinforced by interest from other fields
such as computer science, cryptography, and algebraic geometry.
This session will be devoted to the exposition of topics in
computational number theory from a theoretical point of view. This
includes developments of algorithms and application of theoretical
results. Here some topics that we would like to cover:
-Combinatorial and computational number theory
-Computational problems in elliptic curves
-Algorithmic algebraic number theory
-Number-theoretic cryptography
-Function fields and algebraic curves
-Arithmetic geometry.
-Number theory applied to coding theory.
This list of topics is flexible, depending on the contributions
received. In each of these areas both practical and theoretical
algorithmics will be encouraged.
